Setup Email in Windows Mail (Vista)

Open Vista's Windows Mail Program:

  • Click on Window's Start Button
  • Click E-mail/Windows Mail

Create New Account:

  • Click Tools across the top menu of Window's Mail
  • Click Accounts
Internet Accounts:
  • Click the Add... button on the right hand side
  • Under What type of account would you like to add? select E-mail Account
  • Click Next

Your Name

  • Display name: Type in the name you wish to appear on your mail when others receive it.
  • Click Next

Internet E-mail Address

  • E-mail address: Type in your full email address. ie: username@sum.net
  • Click Next

Set up e-mail servers:

  • Incoming e-mail server type: This should be set to "POP3"
  • For Incoming Mail (POP3) enter mail.sum.net
  • For Outgoing mail (SMTP) enter mail.sum.net (unless you are travelling and use our National Dialup service - then you can enter smtp.safepages.com for the Outgoing mail server - leave the incoming mail server at mail.sum.net).
  • Do Not Check Outgoing server requires authentication unless instructed to do so.
  • Click on Next.
Internet Mail Logon:
  • E-mail username: This is your username, the part of your email address prior to the "@" symbol. This should already be entered in here if you have set up your dialup connection (do not include the @sum.net part).
  • Password: Enter the password for your account.
  • Then click on Next.
Congratulations:
  • Click on Finish and then click on Close from the Internet Accounts window. Windows Mail is now set up to send and receive e-mail.
