Setup Dialup Internet
Connection in Windows XP
Getting to the New Connection Wizard
- Click on Start and then click on Control
Panel on the right side of the menu.
- Click on Network Connections (or Network
and Internet Connections on some systems).
- Click on Create a New Connection
(or Setup or change your Internet connection on some
systems).
- In the Internet Properties window that appears,
click on the Setup... button if it appears.

- Click on Next
in the welcome screen.

Connection Type
- Leave the selection
on Connect to the Internet
- Click on Next.
Getting
Ready
- Select Set up
my connection manually
- Click on Next.
Internet
Connection
- Leave the selection
on Connect using a dial-up modem.
- Click Next.
Connection
Name
- ISP Name: Type in Sum.Net for the ISP
Name.
- Click Next.
Phone Number
to Dial
- Phone Number: Enter the local dial-up phone
number for where you live. For Sumter County, enter 793-6200
and leave the area code blank.
Internet
Account Information
- Username: Type your Sum.Net username
in small letters. Do not type in the @sum.net part.
- Password:
Type in your password.
- Confirm password:
Type in your password again.
- Click Next.
Completing
the New Connection Wizard
You may see the Internet
Properties window at this time. If you
do, select Dial whenever a network
connection is not present and then
click OK. If the Desktop has appeared
follow the directions below.
- Click on Start.
- Right click Internet
Explorer at the top of the Start
menu and then select Internet
Properties.
- Click on the Connections
tab.
- Select Dial whenever
a network connection is not present.
- Click OK.
You have now set up Windows XP to connect to Sum.Net.
